Newly inducted East Tennessee Writers Hall of Famer and fiery roots-rock singer/songwriter Scott Miller is a survivor, scaling back his erstwhile stoically-crazed lifestyle, hightailing it from the city lights of Knoxville, and taking up the life of a cattleman on his family’s Shenandoah Valley farm. Somehow amid all that, his current “Ladies Auxiliary” album (F.A.Y. Recordings) is his tenth release under his own name, or that of his post V-Roys band, the Commonwealth. The album title “Ladies Auxiliary” recognizes that Miller’s backing band on this album is comprised solely of women, including Bryn Davies (bass), Rayna Gellert (fiddle/banjo), Jen Gunderman (keys) Deanie Richardson (fiddle), Megan Carchman (drums) and guitarist Anne McCue who also served as a producer on the album. Mark Deming at wrote, “[Miller combines] the emotional honesty and intelligence of a singer/songwriter with the swagger and enthusiasm of a rock & roller… a gifted and eclectic solo artist, first with his ad hoc group the Commonwealth and later on his own.”

“Scott Miller’s songwriting has always balanced wit with woe.” ( Relix )

“Recorded in Tennessee with an all-female cast, it’s equal parts humorous and heartfelt, shot through with social commentary, working-class twang and character-driven songwriting. “ ( Rolling Stone )

"All-female band lifts Americana vet to unaccustomed heights..." ( Robert Christgau, “Expert Witness” - Noisey )

"Miller is known for his ability to explore the complexities that are often entangled with everyday emotions, sometimes spurred on by the troubles, travails and complexities of today’s world.” ( The Daily Times )

“Miller’s one of our most vivid, story-telling songwriters” ( Country Standard Time )

“Long before co-founding that dapper twangpop outfit [The V-Roys], Miller logged many miles on the singer-songwriter trail as kind of a cross between John Prine and Loudon Wainwright III.” ( No Depression )
